Morlet Force de la Nature Cabernet Franc
Morlet Force de la Nature Cabernet Franc
This wine captures the strong, rich and dense character of the Cabernet Franc grapes from our vineyard in the world-renowned Oakville appellation. Bottled only during outstanding vintages, this massive wine pays homage to Luc’s great-grandfather, Gaston Morlet, who had a reputation for being a force of nature in his native Avenay-Val-D’Or. His pioneering spirit remains one of the forces behind our family’s passion for making the best wines possible. Crafted from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes, this wine truly is a ‘Force of Nature’ or ‘Force de la Nature.’
Winemaker notes
Dark red with a hue of purple. Intense and complex bouquet of mocha, toasted coffee bean and freshly cracked black pepper. The palate is reminiscent of the nose, intermixed with notes of black raspberries, scorched earth and forest floor. Full-bodied with a massive tannic structure, this one-of-a-kind stunner is meant to be cellared and will age gracefully for many decades.
2019
Wine Advocate 96: Now sourced entirely from Block B on the family's Oakville estate, the 100% varietal 2019 Cabernet Franc Force de la Nature seamlessly marries a fine dusting of dried herbs (sage, bay leaves, mint) with dark berry fruit (cassis, blackberries, black cherries). It's full-bodied and rich, already fully open for business and approachable yet concentrated and velvety, with a long, elegant finish.
Vinous 97: The 2019 Cabernet Franc Force de la Nature is 100% Franc from Cœur de Vallée. The aromatic intensity of Franc in this gravelly soils is so alluring. Crushed raspberry, mint, spicecake, dried flowers and mocha are all laced together in the captivating bouquet. Beams of tannin add to a feeling of drive as this resonant, textured Franc continues to open in the glass. This is a stunning wine by any measure. But considering the vines were planted only in 2015, even more so!
Decanter 95: Epernay-born Luc Morlet and his wife Jodie’s Cabernet Franc is a powerhouse at first, with prominent, seemingly unyielding tannins. But within a few hours, those tannins transform and the wine’s underlying suppleness takes the stage. Morlet is not afraid of Franc’s greener side – and his is loaded with spicy menthol and spearmint aromas and flavours. Force de la Nature is an homage to Morlet’s great-grandfather Gaston Morlet, who was often described as such.
