Los Vascos Le Dix Cabernet Sauvignon
Los Vascos Le Dix Cabernet Sauvignon
In stock
Le Dix is predominantly made from an old plot of Cabernet Sauvignon called El Fraile, which means the Monk. Nestled at the heart of the vineyard, the vines are planted at high density and produce high quality grapes of remarkable concentration. Selected Syrah and Carmenère are blended in to add complexity to the wine. Made with the utmost care, just like the Bordeaux Grands Crus. Grapes are carefully selected and hand harvested. This wine will reveal its complexity with further bottle ageing. Cellar in good conditions for up to ten years or more.
Stretching from the Coastal range to the foothills of the Andes mountains, Colchagua’s Mediterranean climate and privileged terroirs have made it a place of choice to produce quality wines in Chile. Los Vascos estate lies at the foothills of the coastal range, 200km South West of Santiago, in the cooler part of Colchagua where the vines benefit from the natural cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean.
Winemaker notes
2019: Le Dix 2019 has an intense ruby red color. Like the color, the nose is intense and complex, exhibiting notes of red and black fruits such as cherries, accompanied by spicy undertones (nutmeg and cinnamon) and hints of cedar, tobacco and cocoa. On the palate, it has the unmistakable volume and smoothness of a warmer year. The mouth is long, with a pleasant sensation of sweetness and a fruity aftertaste. Overall, Le Dix 2019 shows a more intense and lush personality, whilst keeping the elegance that has earned it the spotlight.
2019
James Suckling 94: Complex and deep nose with plenty of nuance. A fine twist of balsamic with some graphite, cigar box and walnut to the background of cassis and sweet berries. Juicy and medium- to full-bodied on the palate with fine tannins. 92% cabernet sauvignon and 8% syrah. Drink or hold.
2021
James Suckling 95: A ripe and fruit-expressive nose showing good generosity and complexity. Quince, ripe cherries and currants with subtle tobacco, dark spices and chili chocolate. Full-bodied and pretty expansive on the palate with fine, dusty tannins melting into the persistent finish. Really impressive length. It goes on and on. Juicy, firm yet really polished. Drink or hold.
Vinous 96: The 2021 Le Dix displays the nuances of its cold growing season. With aromas of cherry and crushed plum, it also delivers minty and cedar notes alongside boldo and garrigue-like undertones. Dry, velvety and rich, with a structured yet weightless palate, the complex and clingy mouthfeel leads to a long-lasting, flavorful finish. Comparable to the 2010 vintage, it will continue to evolve in the bottle. As one of the iconic wines of the Colchagua Valley and Chile as a whole, Los Vascos has crafted Le Dix for over two decades. It always hails from the same clayish plot of old vines planted in Peralillo.
Wine Enthusiast 92: It's fruity on the nose and palate, with delicate tannins. This Cabernet has a bouquet of cherry, raspberry and blackberry and a soft mouthfeel. A combination of baking spices and peppercorn wraps juicy red fruit and adds layers to this enjoyable wine.
