Los Vascos Cromas Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva
Los Vascos Cromas Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva
The Cabernet Sauvignon in Los Vascos' Cromas Grande Réserve was selected from plots in the foothills of Santa Lucia, where it benefits from optimal exposure and light intensity. The contrast between day and night temperatures is extreme in these vineyards, making the conditions particularly favourable for the slow ripening of our emblematic grape variety, with the period between veraison and ripening extending to 75 days. Cabernet Sauvignon is harvested late in the season, when the leaves begin to change colour and the estate takes on its vibrant autumnal hues.
The wines in Los Vascos' Cromas range are aged for 12 months in barrels. The shallow granite soils and the good sun exposure of the slopes gave rise to well-balanced vines that today produce precise and elegant wines.
Winemaker notes
Ruby colored with garnet trim. The nose is intense, with red fruits such as cherries and plums, accompanied by cassis. Along with these fruits appear spicy notes of clove and cinnamon complemented by a background of well-integrated wood and graphite notes. The palate is intense, with a pleasant volume and acidity. It has characterful but elegant tannins that give it presence and vitality. A structured and balanced wine, a good representative of a Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon.
2019
James Suckling 91: Some baked cherries, black pepper and dark spices. A full-bodied and rich cabernet with lots of cassis on the palate. Ripe, tannic and slightly chewy. Give it a year to let the tannin round off. Drink in 2024.
Wine Spectator 90: This red offers an inviting perfumed entry, with notes of tea leaf and red currant joining on the palate and shades of slate and green herbs folding in on the finish. Drink now.
