"Les Amoureuses" is located just below the prestigious Musigny Grand Cru parcel. One might also evoke the beauty of the site, which overlooks the Petits Vougeots and Clos de Vougeot, and liken this parcel to a balcony where, in famous plays, enamored women are captivated by the declarations of their suitors.
Winemaker notes
The wine’s vibrant robe, a garnet red with violet reflections, lights up the glass. The nose, with remarkable expressiveness, reveals a complex bouquet of ripe fruits such as raspberry, enhanced by spices and delicate toasted and smoky notes. On the palate, this wine stands out for its finesse and elegance, offering aromas of wild fruits like blackberries, complemented by spices and subtle oak. Its length on the palate is exceptional.
2014
Burghound 92-95♥: An overtly floral and spicy array is comprised by notes of cool and ultra-pure red currant, cherry, sandalwood and tea. There is superb detail and energy to the wonderfully delineated, pure and stony flavors that possess simply outstanding depth and length on the lacy yet notably firm finale that is so harmonious that the word Zen comes to mind. In a word, brilliant.
Vinous 91-93: Bright red-ruby. Pungent raspberry and stony lift on the nose. Black raspberry and mineral flavors project a compelling combination of sweet and saline elements and vibrate on the palate. Finishes with outstanding subtle saline persistence and floral lift; really perks up the salivary glands.
2018
Burghound 91-93♥: A very ripe yet not roasted nose offers up notes of poached plum, sandalwood, exotic tea and plenty of floral influences that include violet and rose petal among others. The sleek, juicy and well-delineated middle weight flavors brim with minerality that adds a certain lift to the equally firm, serious and ever-so-mildly warm finale. This too is going to require at least some patience.
Wine Advocate 90-93: The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses bursts form the glass with a complex bouquet of wild berries, cherries, peony, cinnamon and smoke. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and fine-boned, with powdery and refined structuring tannins, lively acids and a fragrant core of fruit. I'd rank Domaine Faively's Chambolle-Musigny premiers crus above this négociant cuvée, despite the pedigree of the site, but it is a pretty wine in the making.
