Faiveley Beaune 1er Cru "Clos de L'Ecu" Monopole
Faiveley Beaune 1er Cru "Clos de L'Ecu" Monopole
The "Clos de l'Écu" appellation dates back to the Middle Ages. This clos enabled owners at the time to pay the sums they owed to the Dukes of Bourgogne. It is a monopole parcel and was purchased in 2003 by François Faiveley, the 6th generation of the family.
Winemaker notes
This terroir offers a fruity and very elegant of the Pinot Noir varietal. It displays a deep ruby colour and remarkably pure notes of red and black fruits. The palate is lively and spicy with a refreshing touch of menthol. This wine evolves beautifully in the bottle although its generous character makes it a pleasure to drink in its youth.
2021
Wine Advocate 90-91: Exhibiting aromas of sweet berries, vine smoke and spices, the 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole is medium-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a cool core of fruit and melting tannins. It will offer a broad drinking window in its supple, delicate style.
2022
Wine Advocate 91-93: The stony soils high on the north side of the Montagne de Beaune have produced a bright, tensile wine in the 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole, a medium to full-bodied, supple and suave red wine redolent of raspberries, sweet spices, orange zest and licorice.
