The Queen of the Vines. Riesling has a long tradition here on the Nahe, and at the Diel estate in particular. It requires time, patience and hard work to draw out her best — before and after harvest. Yet the rewards are many, and bestow Diel's dry Rieslings with the finest balance, juicy structure, spicy floral aromas and concentrated minerality.
Winemaker notes
Complex scent reminiscent of dried apricot and ripe peach. The melty fullness is accompanied by a fine acidity. Long aftertaste reminiscent of forest honey.
2019
Wine Advocate 90-91: The 2019 Dorsheim Riesling is pure, flinty and fruity on the fine and elegant nose. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a generous but delicate and seductive Riesling with a lovely mouthfeel, remarkable finesse and stimulating salinity. Tasted as a still-cloudy barrel sample in May 2020.
James Suckling 92: Plenty of ripe-apricot here and some delicate, spicy notes, too. At once rather juicy, but also seriously elegant with a long finish, in which the tannins, minerals and acidity interlock neatly to form a firm whole. Better after 2020. Screw cap.
Falstaff 96: Yellow fruit fragrance with tangerine, sweet nectarine and savoury minerality. Bridges the gap from profundity to slate-savoury-elegant lightness. An almost ideal typical Nahe Riesling.
2022
James Suckling 94: So cool and so fascinating, this very serious dry riesling for a village wine has the structure that we expect from riesling GGs! I love the way the abundant fine tannins interlock with the mineral acidity and the restrained stone fruit character. Very long, stony finish with impressive energy. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.
