Collection: Chateau de la Maltroye
Situated in Chassagne-Montrachet in the south of the Cote d'Or, Chateau de la Maltroye has been a family property since 1939. Chateau de la Maltroye currently extends over around 13 hectares of vines in Chassagne-Montrachet and 2 hectares in Santenay, with an impressive 70% of the total production under Premier Cru or Grand Cru designation. They own 3 of the best plots of Chassagne (La Romanee, Dent de Chien, Les Grandes Ruchottes) which are on the strictest allocation.Jean-Pierre Cornut, the current wine-grower, has undoubtly reinvigorated this domain which now produces some of the best Chassagne-Montrachet on the market.
Indeed, the whites made by Jean-Pierre are vibrant, intense, and thrilling. Chassagne naturally lends power and richness to chardonnay, but Cornut is expert in retaining and extracting great tangy acidity and mineral depth to match. What the whites of Chateau de la Maltroye seem to have in common is a perfected integration of old and new oak, which smooths out the edges and contributes great depth.
