Casanuova di Nittardi Chianti Classico is a pure Sangiovese from the single vineyard “Vigna Doghessa” in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti. The vineyard lies on a south-east facing hill at 450 meters above sea level and has a soil full of schist stones, which engenders the wine with a fine minerality and pleasant freshness.
Since 1981, Nittardi has paid annual homage to Michelangelo by having an internationally recognized artists such as Hundertwasser, Horst Janssen, Giuliano Ghelli, Yoko Ono, Mimmo Paladino, Günter Grass, Dario Fo, Karl Otto Götz, Alain Clément and Hsiao Chin create the label and wrapping paper.
Winemaker notes
Vibrant ruby red, intensely redolent of cherries, violet and hints of aromatic herbs and spices, with well-rounded tannins and a long-lasting finish on the palate. Excellently suited to all variations of pasta and meat dishes. Best served at approx. 16° C (61° F).
2020
James Suckling 92: A medium-bodied red with sliced black-cherry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Fresh and vivid. Bright at the end. Some bark undertones. 100% sangiovese. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Falstaff 94: Dark, very rich ruby red. On the nose multilayered berry fruit, delicate leather, also fruit tea, savoury. Spans a beautiful, fine creamy arc, a lot of drive, very harmoniously balanced between nose and mouth, finishes with a lot of drive and character.
2021
Falstaff 94: Deep ruby red in colour with purple edges. On the nose, aromas of cherry and blackberry, with spicy notes in the background. The palate is powerful with pronounced acidity, fine-meshed, still young tannins and a fruity finish, nice length.
