J. A. Ferret Pouilly Fuisse
J. A. Ferret Pouilly Fuisse
A blend of the best parcels from Fuissé's amphitheatre. A caressing touch, a tasty finish and a fresh texture characterize this emblematic cuvée. A reductive wood of good augur for the guard signs this cuvée.
Winemaker notes
2022: This emblematic wine reflects all the diversity of Fuissé's terroir combining the roundness from clay, the delicacy from granitic soil, and the saltiness from limestone. Notes of citrus and fresh almond match perfectly with the richness of this solar vintage.
2020
Burghound 92: Here too there is enough wood to merit pointing out setting off the pure, cool and airy aromas of citrus confit, spice and similar essence of pear and apple and petrol. There is a bit more size and weight to the rich and solidly voluminous flavors that possess an attractive mouthfeel that is at once caressing but powerful, all wrapped in a driving, mouthcoating and balanced finish. At least some patience is advised for this youthfully austere effort.
Wine Advocate 90: Gently reductive aromas of pear, white flowers, freshly baked bread and nutmeg introduce Ferret's 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé, a medium-bodied, satiny and fleshy wine that's seamless and lively, offering plenty of immediate charm in a nicely balanced format.
2021
Burghound 90: Discreet reduction isn't enough to overshadow the pretty and layered aromas of citrus, spice and acacia blossom that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The sleek, intense and beautifully detailed middleweight flavors possess very good energy as well as a subtle minerality that surfaces on the lemon and bone-dry but not really austere finale.
Wine Advocate 88: The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé incorporates fruit from below the roche de Vergisson that normally goes into the domaine's Autour de la Roche bottling, and given the small volumes, it was entirely vinified in barrel. Exhibiting aromas of almonds, sweet pastry, pear and mint, it's medium-bodied, with an attractively fleshy core of fruit for the vintage, bright acids and a saline finish.
Vinous 91: The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Perrières 1er Cru has a delightful bouquet of perfumed yellow fruit, egg whites and light fern scents. Fine delineation and lift. The palate is well balanced with a gentle grip on the entry. The 2021 shows ell-judged acidity, and it's pretty taut. A subtle prickle of spice appears toward the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle.
2022
Burghound 88-91: Ripe and reasonably fresh aromas are comprised by notes of essence of pear, apple and lemon rind. There is fine intensity to the attractively textured, even sleek, middleweight flavors that exhibit sneaky good length on the citrus zest-inflected finale.
Vinous 92: The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Perrières 1er Cru contains less clay and more limestone than the Clos de Jeanne that lies just a few meters below. This bouquet shows beautiful yellow fruit, walnut and light vanilla scents. It's well-defined and has more complexity than the Clos des Prouges. The palate is taut and fresh, quite lively and tensile. There's a pleasing steeliness here with a twist of sour lemon on the finish. Plenty of energy is bound up in this wine. Superb.(
