Grapes selected for Blason are stemming from clay-sand and silty sand slopes with a clayey subsoil. These ligther soils allow for better root penetration and provide more regular and less limiting water supplies. The resulting wine is supple and elegant, lighter in style and more fruit driven than the Grand Vin, making it more accessible in its youth.

Winemaker notes

2021: The color is intense, with ruby hints. The nose is fine and indulgent, with a marked delicacy underlined by notes of red berry. The palate stands out for its spicy, resinous structure, with a soft finish to complete the panoply of a charming wine.

2021

Wine Advocate 89: The 2021 Blason de l'Evangile has actually benefited, in a sense, from the frost, as the estate's lesser, sandier terroirs were hit hardest and represent a smaller proportion of the blend than usual. Bursting with aromas of plums, berries, violets, licorice and mint, it's medium-bodied, fleshy and suave, with powdery tannins and succulent acids. Some 20% was matured in tank and another 20% in foudre, leaving the wine's fruit in the foreground.

James Suckling 92-93: An elegant and mineral red with a medium body and tight, fine tannins. Stony, with fresh red-fruit and citrus notes. Tight center-palate. Fresh and fine. Second wine. 84% merlot and 16% cabernet franc.

Vinous 90: The 2021 Blason de L’Évangile is a very pretty wine. It is the first year the Blason was aged partly in concrete and steel, with a mix of 20% concrete, 15% foudre and the rest neutral barrique—an approach that seems very well suited to a wine that is all about elegance and class. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, spice, mint and orange peel linger on the delicate finish. The 2021 is lovely.
