Moulin de Duhart
Moulin de Duhart
Château Duhart-Milon’s second wine is selected on the same basis as the “Grand Vin”. In general, the grapes are from the younger plots in the vineyard. Moulin de Duhart has several characteristics similar to the grand vin, but with less potential for ageing as its barrel ageing period is shorter. It should be consumed younger than its more robust counterpart. The origin of the name comes from the former presence of a windmill on the Carruades plateau, next to the Duhart-Milon vineyard.
Winemaker notes
2021: Ruby color. The nose, roasted at first, gradually opens up to red fruit, with hints of mint and violet. On the palate, the wine is soft and voluptuous, finishing on a concentration without any roughness. The wood is well-integrated, sapid and sappy. The finish is harmonious and graceful enhanced by toasty notes.
2021
James Suckling 91-92: A firm red, showing blackcurrants and berries with some chocolate and hazelnut character. Tar, too. Medium body and firm, integrated tannins. Second wine of Duhart-Milon. 64% merlot and 36% cabernet sauvignon.
Vinous 90: The 2021 Moulin de Duhart is very beautiful. Silky, supple and exceptionally polished, crushed flowers, spice and red-toned fruit all grace this easygoing Pauillac.
Wine Enthusiast 93: This wine is fragrant with woodland black fruits, its freshness emphasized by the high proportion of juicy Merlot in the blend. On the palate, the wine is rich while also open. Its spice is balanced with the black-currant fruits. Taste from 2027.
2022
Wine Advocate 87-89: Offering up aromas of plum preserve, hoisin sauce, sweet soil tones and spices, the 2022 Moulin de Duhart is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins and ripe acids, but this sample lacks a touch of precision. It's a blend dominated by 87% Merlot.
James Suckling 93-94: Such beautiful blackberry, chocolate and hazelnut character here. It's medium-bodied with juicy fruit and a succulent finish. All here for the second wine. 87% merlot and 13% cabernet sauvignon.
2023
James Suckling 92-93: Plenty of blackcurrant, dark-chocolate and cedar character with medium to full body, creamy tannins and a juicy finish. Round and delicious. A blend of 55% merlot and 45% cabernet sauvignon.
