Details
Lying half way between Vosne and Nuits-St-Georges, like Nuits Boudots, ideally situated on the lower (and nobler) part of the hill, and facing east: the soil is fairly fine, even sandy at the top of the plot. The name of the cru refers to a pile of stones, which still exists today, since the soil once had to be "destonedā in order to render it more suitable for cultivation.
Winemaker notes
A clearly pronounced personality: powerful, sometimes wild aromas; a marked acidity, which give it a captivating freshness; a fine roundness, sometimes even opulence. In short, an intense wine which has many cards in its hand to win you over.
2022
Burghound 90-93: A deft application of wood sets off the markedly ripe yet still nicely fresh nose of poached plum, black cherry liqueur and warm earth. As one would reasonably expect, there is better volume and density to the more powerful medium-bodied flavors that are at once rich and caressing before terminating in a palate soaking, very firm and sneaky long finish. Lovely and a wine that should be approachable after only 5-ish years yet easily reward a decade plus of cellaring.
Vinous 90-92: The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru comes from a vineyard most affected by the frost the previous vintage, so this year, there were 12 barrels instead of four. Matured in 60% new oak, the pretty bouquet has brambly red fruit, forest floor and light crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a little more weight than the preceding Vosne Chaumes. Thereās gentle grip with a dash of black pepper on the finish. Drink over the next 15 to 20 years.
