Or when Vosne exercises its influence beyond its boundaries... Indeed, Nuits Boudots is the most northerly appellation of Nuits-St-Georges and neighbours on Vosne Malconsorts. Ideally situated on the lower (and nobler) part of the hill and facing eastward, this appellation has a fairly fragmented soil of average depth. Our plot is over two acres in size. At the top of this plot, the slope is quite steep, which has necessitated a protection against gully erosion.
Winemaker notes
A wine which is very typical of the appellation ...Vosne-Romanée: its roundness, its fleshy plumpness, its discreet but effective structure. Its great maturity and its balance belie the reputation for austerity which goes with Nuits.
2022
Burghound 91-93: There is a cooler and slightly less ripe quality to the restrained aromas of red currant, raspberry, earth and spice whiffs. The rich middleweight flavors aren't quite as dense but they're finer while displaying a subtle minerality on the strikingly persistent finish where a hint of warmth also arises. This too could use better depth but that is just a matter of allowing for a decade of keeping.
Vinous 91-93: The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots 1er Cru has a very attractive nose like the previous vintage. dark cherries, crushed iris flowers and a touch of crushed stone. It is very precise, and the oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, fine structure and transparency. A very nice sapid edge gets the saliva flowing, but this cuvée deserves three or four years in bottle.
Decanter 95: MĂ©o's Boudots is striking in its purity of fruit, with pure mulberry aromas and peony, smoke, and earth notes. The texture is silky, yet there is also impressive density and length. The grapes come from a parcel of just over a hectare at the base of the slope. This delicious wine is a model of elegance and finesse that demonstrates the virtues of the Vosne side of the village. MĂ©o relates that he has revolutionized his barrel regime and that almost everything is aged in light toast casks.
