Clos Prieur is one of Gevrey's finest lieu-dits, sitting below Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin. The most recently released vintages of La Justice and Clos Prieur are so exceptionally made, that most wine critics consider them to be of a Premier Cru standard. 70+ year old vines. De-stemmed, indigenous yeast. Aged in barrel (50% New French Oak).
2020
Burghound 92: An earthier and more sauvage-inflected nose reflects notes of various dark berries, plus, earth and a whiff of humus. Here the medium-bodied flavors are denser if a bit less refined while exhibiting better minerality on the complex, long and moderately firmer finale. As it usually is, this is excellent and worth your interest.
2021
Burghound 88: Here too the wood toast is sufficiently present to warrant pointing out on the cool, pretty and airy red berry fruit aromas where background hints of just turned earth and violet add breadth. I very much like the mid-palate texture of the medium-bodied flavors that contrast somewhat with the mildly edgy if still persistent and slightly firmer finish.
2022
Burghound 91♥: Here too there is plenty of sauvage character suffusing the ripe aromas of plum, dark currant and a hint of forest floor. The richer and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess a velvety mouthfeel and very good power on the dusty, serious and slightly more structured finale. This is excellent and recommended.
