Malescot St Exupery
Malescot St Exupery
2003
Wine Advocate 91: Showing no signs of age, this fully mature, dark plum/ruby-colored 2003 offers notes of forest floor, spring flowers, spice box and tobacco leaf. It possesses all the finesse one would expect, which is surprising in such a hot year. This medium-bodied Margaux should continue to drink well for a decade or more.
James Suckling 91: Slightly cooked dark fruits with a coffee and chocolate undertone on the nose. Full bodied, with soft, velvety tannins and a long fruity finish. Very yummy. No need to wait, but it will be better in two or three years. Find the wine.
2021
Wine Advocate 93: The 2021 Malescot St. Exupery has turned out nicely in its fleshy, flamboyant style, bursting with aromas of dark berries, cherries and creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with supple tannins and a lively core of fruit, it's a strong effort.
James Suckling 94: Very floral with black currant and black cherry aromas with hints of lavender. Floral. Medium-bodied with firm and silky tannins that show beautiful length and polish. Goes on for a long time for the vintage. Classy. Drink after 2026.
Vinous 94: The 2021 Malescot St. Exupéry is beautiful—a wine that isn't trying to be too much in this challenging vintage. Floral aromatics and silky tannins give this mid-weight edition of Malescot quite a bit of charm. All the elements are so nicely balanced. Crushed flowers, dark red/purplish fruit, mint, spice and a dash of orange peel linger. This is nicely done.
2023
Wine Advocate 93-95: One of the most suave, classy vintages from this estate in some years, the 2023 Malescot St. Exupery is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, berries, licorice and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with good depth at the core, supple tannins and a harmonious, integrated profile. Part of the blend is maturing in foudre.
James Suckling 96-97: This has a very deep and beautiful palate with cherries, chocolate, hazelnut and orange peel. Pretty blackcurrants and blue berries, too. Medium body. The finish has gorgeous al-dente fruit at the end and is always subtle. Open tannins. A blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot, and 5% petit verdot.
