The Echézeaux du Dessus cuvée was created in 2017 from one of the three plots of Echézeaux of the estate, planted in 1949. This cuvée is the exclusivity of a single customer, for whom one fifth of the parcel of “Echézeaux du Dessus” has been monopolized. It is a very rare and complex Grand Cru. In the 1980s, a request had even been made for them to become Grands Echézeaux given their proximity. It can therefore be deduced that it is an extremely qualitative climate and unique because of its location.
Winemaker notes
The Echézeaux du Dessus Cuvée 1949 is a complex and masculine wine with great finesse. The wine stretches on fruity and spicy registers. Red and black fruits intertwine, raspberry, blackcurrant, cherry. It shows a beautiful length. The tannins are very tight, of remarkable quality. Its complexity requires patience before tasting.
2023
Burghound 90-92: Firm reduction overshadows the underlying fruit today. More interesting are the delicious if not especially dense middle weight flavors that do possess a sleeker but not more concentrated, mouthfeel while exhibiting good length on the firm, youthfully austere and lingering finale that would also benefit from developing better depth. While it may well change with bottle aging, at present this does not appear to necessarily be more qualitative than the regular cuvée in 2023.
