Details
The crest on the HdV label traces back to the de la Guerra family of Spain and family patriarch, Don José de la Guerra, who settled in California during the late eighteenth century. Simply put, he was an original Californio. In accordance with the celebration of our Spanish heritage, our inaugural Pinot Noir release dons the name of a family matriarch, Ysabel.
Winemaker notes
Enchanting aromas of rose perfume, pink peppercorn and green tea are balanced with hints of pomegranate, macerated strawberry and weathered cedar. Cranberry and wild raspberry notes combined with well-defined tannins give a texture reminiscent of Chinese five-spice. Flirting with herbal tones of thyme and rosemary, this wine promises to age for at least a decade to come.
2017
James Suckling 96: This shows really decadent, wild aromas and flavors of meat, game and forest floor. Dried fruit, such as strawberry and orange peel. Medium to full body. Creamy and focused finish. Balanced and tight. Really savory at the end. Why wait? Drink it.
2018
James Suckling 94: A solid wine with tile, iron, spice, clove and strawberry character. Full-bodied and very chewy, but shows freshness and brightness. Rather muscular. More about the tannins here. Flavorful finish. Needs two or three years to soften. Drink after 2022.
