"Les Saint-Georges" is considered to be one of the oldest climats in Bourgogne and was planted in the year 1000. It is also thought to be the very best Cru in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Our Domaine is the appellation's smallest producer and, for the last 10 years, we have been working towards being reclassified as a Grand Cru.
Winemaker notes
Deep ruby red hue. Powerful nose disclosing ripe fruits and warm spicy notes. A smooth, clean attack gives way to a well-balanced palate with rich, smooth tannins. This wine's harmonious structure and elegance perfectly represent this Premier Cru.
2021
Burghound 89-92: Here too moderate wood sets off the more deeply pitched and more sauvage-inflected aromas of dark currant, violet and forest floor. The delicious and markedly intense medium-bodied flavors flash evident minerality on the moderately austere and lingering finale. Like the Damodes, this could use better depth, but more should reasonably develop with time in bottle.
Wine Advocate 91-93: The 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges reveals aromas of smoky berries, cherries and rich soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's seamless and suave, framed by melting tannins. It's part domaine, part négoce.
Vinous 91-93: The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru comes from both Faiveley's and contracted fruit that Erwan Faiveley holds in high regard. It has a very impressive, detailed bouquet with brambly red fruit, briary, hints of rosemary and bay. The mineralité develops with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, nice sapidity here with an elegant and focused finish that is very promising.
2022
Wine Advocate 92-94: The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges unwinds in the glass with notes of dark berries, orange zest, exotic spices and peonies, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and richly layered palate, its generous core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. Seamless and complete, it's almost the stylistic opposite of the ethereal Damodes.
James Suckling 96-97: Captivating nose of red fruits and bitter chocolate. Mind-blowing concentration and finesse. Easily Grand Cru standard with super-fine tannins and stunning mineral acidity. The finish doesn't want to stop!
Vinous 91-93: The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru is aged in 50% new oak. It has quite a tertiary bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, red cherries becoming the most prominent scent with a touch of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, quite a plush Les Saint-Georges with a dash of white pepper and allspice.
