Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
By royal ordinance from Louis-Philippe, the name "Chambertin" was added to the name of the village and it officially became "Gevrey-Chambertin" in 1847. Domaine Faiveley's parcel selection of old vines aged over 35 years old produces an exceptionally intense and aromatic wine.
Winemaker notes
Our old vines are over 35 years old and produce an exceptionally intense and aromatic wine that reflects the unique character of its terroir. With its deep, clear ruby red hue, it reveals notes of black fruits and excellent strength and concentration.
2019
Wine Advocate 89-91: Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cassis, rich spices and loamy soil, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with an ample core of lively, concentrated fruit and a textural, enveloping profile. This elegant, gourmand wine will offer a broad drinking window.
James Suckling 92: This is just what you expect from a village-level Gevrey-Chambertin. Generous and quite earthy with full, supple tannins, but also enough acidity to keep the supple, long finish on track. A blend of many different lots from 12 hectares / almost 30 acres of vineyards! Drink now.
2020
Wine Advocate 89-91: A 35,000-bottle cuvée derived entirely from Faiveley's own holdings, the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes unwinds in the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries, loamy soil and spices. Medium to full-bodied, textural and seamless, it's concentrated and vibrant, with ripe tannins and a long, expansive finish. This is a real success.
James Suckling 93: A rich and meaty Gevrey-Chambertin with plenty of black-cherry and blackberry fruit, wrapped around a very healthy core of tannins. Delicate wet-earth touch. Long, well-structured finish with excellent harmony. Drink or hold.
