2nd Pez - 2020

The wine is fresh, rich and well-balanced on the palate with a precise finish underpinned by delicious tannins.

James Suckling 90-91: A medium-bodied red with blackberries and walnuts and some chocolate and wet-earth undertones. Juicy and approachable already.

Decanter 92: Herbs, aniseed and liquorice combined with red and black fruits. Generous, friendly, juicy, supple, but nicely textured and with a lovely balance. Creamy, chalky and also austere, with bright red fruits, acidity and a texture which lingers on the tongue. It’s not plush or mouthfilling, but it is pronounced and gives the gentle definition to the palate. There’s a nice ease to this while still putting you in St-Estèphe. Nothing complex or harsh - such easy drinking. You have the tannins, you have the grip, but it’s gentle, chalky, calm and comfortable. A great value wine. Aged for 12 months, one-third new oak.

James Suckling 88-89: A firm and racy wine with blackberry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Tangy acidity and a bright finish.

Decanter 89: Herbal blackcurrant nose, really very Cabernet. The palate is lively with lots of buzzy, zippy fruit. Quite high-toned black fruits with creamy edges, this is youthful and perky, balanced but with a sense of fun to the black cherry and raspberry fruit. Smooth with St-Estèphe typicity so you get a touch of minty, mineral austerity on the finish - real terroir signature. The acidity is apparent, so the fruit feels a little austere but there's plenty of layers to this. Ageing will bring softness and harmony. The third vintage - since its introduction in 2019 - to take young-vine fruit.
